UNIX course design-Report

Study Subject:  UNIX course design

Date: 02.15.97-11.20.2000
Client or Sponsor:  Multimedia Studies Program, SFSU
Objective: Design & deliver courses in use of UNIX operating system.

Summary:  This project was centered upon enabling people to use UNIX. It succeeded in providing access to the command line and the world beyond- many of my students now far exceed my abilities, none of them left the course with fear of UNIX intact. Developing these courses helped develop my teaching style- the "guide on the side" as opposed to "sage on the stage" and the coordination of online resources with live lab work. I look forward to teaching again when the opportunity presents itself.

Keywords:  Instructional Design, UNIX for beginners, online classes
