Leonardo Digital Reviews-Report

Study Subject:  Leonardo Digital Reviews

Date: 04.15.94-06.01.2000
Client or Sponsor:  Leonardo, ISAST, MITPress
Objective: Electronic & print publishing of art, science and technology reviews by international panel.

Summary:  This project was designed to further Leonardo's primary mission of giving voice to artists, scientists and technologists about their own work by promoting peer review. It succeeded in connecting over 50 professionals in varied disciplines, providing them with review materials and encouraging dialogue. Some challenges were in overcoming language barriers particularly in file sharing between western and non-western operating systems. It lead to a greater awareness of the intersections between arts, sciences and technology. Today, the project is flourishing under Michael Punt's leadership still sponsored by Leonardo and continuing to grow its readership through quality of reviews.

Keywords:  Reviews, online community, early hypermedia
